Taliesin West

I am a huge Frank Lloyd Wright fan, and yesterday I had the opportunity to travel to his beautiful winter home, on the outskirts of east Scottsdale (he died in the 1960's, but his architectural 'fellowship' still operates out of there). Taliesin (which means "shining brow") is an absolute marvel. The way FLW blends things right into the landscape, and only uses natural materials from the surrounding area is genius. It's all about geometric designs and glorious, wide-open spaces. There are lots of twists and turns, and in fact, the main door to the living room isn't in a traditional place--it's kind of hidden in an alcove, covered by a tree. He wanted every inch of the structures to be some kind of discovery. :)

The tour was 90 minutes, and I was ready to do it again right after we finished. Inspiring. Brilliant. Here are some pictures!! We couldn't take pictures in a few of the rooms (bedrooms, living room, inner courtyard), but I think I still took plenty. :) A lot of the original furniture still exists, and it's all just so functional and comfortable. FLW built three theatres on this property! One for live performances, and two for movies (one of them is underground). SO COOL.

Video Review of my book!

So the 8-year-old daughter of a lady at work just finished my book, and this is what she had to say... (so cute)
